Marion Mike-Coury Marion Mike-Coury has a variety of experiences in her background. She is a teacher, and educational consultant, a speech and language pathologist, a myo-functional therapist, a freelance writer, and public speaking trainer. Marion is an award-winning public speaker whose name is in the Ohio State Hall of Fame for her work in drama. She has also received a Writer's Award from The National League of American Pen Women and is listed in Who's Who of American Women. Marion is a keynote speaker, seminar leader, facilitator and trainer. She has served on several boards, and has served on the Executive Board as Vice President of Programs for the Marin Council Boy Scouts of America.
Marion is President of I LIKE ME! PRODUCTIONS, LLC, which has offered self-esteem programs and products to children from preschool to high school since 1972. She conducts workshops and in service training for parents and teachers. Much of Marion's work has been for the improvement of the quality of "childhood". Marion is dedicated to "turning kids on to learning, living and laughing." She states:
"Our country's most valuable natural resource is her children. Yet we have been so concerned with giving our children a brighter future, that we have lost sight of our real mission... That is to give the future brighter children...especially in terms of respect and acceptance of self and others. Then, in turn, they will create a brighter future!"
Marion is also owner and President of VIP Public Speaking Training & Seminars, she has found her background in Speech Pathology and journalism, along with the use of video equipment to be very beneficial in developing and improving skills in communication. Her training sessions demonstrate the potential all public speakers have in obtaining a more powerful delivery for greater impact regardless of the size of their audience. She also teaches communication techniques for successful media interviews, and trains instructors in both public and private sectors on how to use teaching techniques effectively. Marion has worked with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department since the early 80's providing training for the Instructors' Update course as well as acting as facilitator for several executive meetings. Her subjects include: Leadership, Ethics, Motivation, Communication, and Self-esteem.
Marion is currently a Speech and Language Pathologist at John F. Kennedy elementary School in Southern California. Prior to this, she taught at California School for the Deaf in Riverside, working with deaf elementary children, and also at Blind Children's Learning Center in Santa Ana, CA where she provided early intervention to blind infants from ages 4 months to 5 years. She was a Senior Speech Pathologist for Easter Seals of Mahoning, Columbiana, and Trumbull Counties in Ohio. There she worked with infants as well as adults with communication disorders. Her youngest patient was 2 months old, her oldest, over 90 years old. She was responsible to oversee eight other Speech Pathologists as well as work with Occupational and Physical Therapists in rehabilitation settings including therapeutic nursery schools, nursing homes, hospitals and early intervention settings. She also lectured at colleges and universities on various related topics.
Laurie Eichhorn is the artist and illustrator of the I Like Me! books and characters. Working together with Marion since 1982 they have created many stories, educational materials and programs for schools and organizations across the nation. Their work was featured at the Mill Valley Film Festival in 1986. She is an award-winning artist and photographer and also works as a freelance graphic designer.
